August 2019

Annual Block Party A Success!

Thanks to all who came out to celebrate our neighborhood and build community at our Annual District Block Party! We had a terrific turnout of over 25 businesses with activities and donations, a festive beer garden, an energized team of volunteer residents from Covenant House, and delicious baked goods created by neighbors and donated to raise funds for the youth shelter. The talented Jack London resident and artist DJ Hightop got the crowds dancing. Thank you to NCPC Co-Chairs Jen Newman and Betsey Archer and resident/business owner Winnie Anderson for garnering so much community participation, and to the generous Jack London businesses who shared in the celebration. See y'all next Summer!

Stakeholder Survey Results Help Inform District Priorities

Nearly 200 stakeholders responded to the Jack London Stakeholder Survey this July. Great ideas around new retail and business offerings and neighborhood improvements were shared. Thank you all for the significant amount of input and engagement to help us inform our work. Excerpts from survey results included here in this month's Board meeting slideshow.

Jack London stakeholder meeting

Summer Stakeholder Meeting a Success!

Our team was overwhelmed by the great turnout and positive response at the Stakeholder Meeting Friday. An estimated 70 attendees enjoyed local coffee generously provided by legacy business Mr. Espresso, cold brew and other creative beverages from Bicycle Coffee, delicious bites from Town Square Eats, and desert from the soon-to-open-in-Jack-London James and the Giant Cupcake. Thank you to these great businesses and to all who shared in the milestone celebration.

“I really enjoyed the Stakeholders Meeting. Your presentation was very enlightening and the various merchants do a great job bonding and growing their businesses. I really appreciated that the A’s are going to recognize the Ambassadors and their families!! They do a great job and deserve the praise!!”
-- Brenda Ivey, City of Oakland Neighborhood Services Coordinator, Beat 1X
