An example of how to do First Saturday like a pro:
Start with brunch at Shapeshifters, then swing by the Oakland Vintage Market to dig for some vintage gems! After the vintage fair, hit up the Jack London Art Walk, happening at galleries all over the district. Between stops, swing by Jack London's new neighborhood distillery, P&W Spirits, for a taste of their signature gin, then catch a show at Yoshi's, live music at Everett and Jones BBQ, or play a game of bowling or bocce ball at Plank. 2 Artist Reception for Duncan Sherwood Forbes, "Weight of Air" 560 2nd Street Oakland, CA 94607 This First Saturday: Stop by the Grand Gallery for the opening reception for a brand new month-long exhibit: the art of Duncan Sherwood Forbes, running through the month of May. The Grand Gallery is excited to announce the opening of Duncan Sherwood-Forbes - Weight of Air. Forbes is a multimedia artist based in Oakland specializing in figurative metalwork. His sculptures have been exhibited at galleries and art fairs both nationally and internationally. His approach to wire is rooted in line drawing. “I use wire to divide air, treating space itself as the primary medium.” This effect commands your attention as the figures appear to be suspended in mid-thought.
