Jack London Brewing District

Established in 2018, the Jack London Brewing District is currently comprised of eight local microbreweries: Oakland United, Original Pattern, Dokkæbier, Hella Coastal, Buck Wild, Line 51, Shapeshifters, and Cellarmaker Brewing Co. The Jack London Improvement District assists this cooperative brewing community to promote locally produced beer and to collaborate on meaningful and fun projects that support our community of creators. The past two summers, JLID has sponsored and produced the Jack London Brewing District Block Party, a neighborhood beer festival celebrating these beloved businesses.

With their facilities being in such close proximity to one another, the Jack London Brewing District provides visitors with a unique opportunity to visit Oakland beer makers, learn about craft beer, and support local business, all within the bounds of our neighborhood.

Buck Wild Brewing
401 Jackson Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

Buck Wild Brewing is driven by a mission to create craft beer that can be enjoyed by all. By replacing malted barley with buckwheat, Buck Wild became the California’s first 100% gluten free brewery when they opened in November of 2020. With multiple GABF medals under their belt, they are certainly reinventing the game of GF beer. Not to mention, they have their own GF food program with awesome bar bites.

Pro-tip: check out their legendary Wednesday trivia nights or Drag Queen Bingo for a great time!

Cellarmaker Brewing Co.
300 Webster Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

Originally from the other side of the bay, Cellarmaker relocated their SF brewery to the East Bay in 2023. Known for their constant experimentation and innovation (as well as their incredible Detroit-style pizza), Cellarmaker is constantly releasing limited batches of award-winning beers that attract beer lovers from far and wide. Their beautiful, airy new taproom has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Pro-tip: with a full-on pizza kitchen plus delicious salads and sides, this is the perfect place for a group dinner!

420 3rd Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

If you’re looking to try something new and exciting, Dokkæbier is the place to be. As the Bay Area’s only Asian-inspired brewery, you can expect utterly unique brews such as their Kimchi Sour or their

Yuzu Blonde Ale. The brewery got it’s name from the Korean word “dokkaebi” (도깨비), the mysterious, shape-shifting creatures found throughout Korean folklore. Not only does Dokkæbier push the envelope of what ingredients can be included in a beer, they are also leading the push for more inclusion and diversity in the craft beer industry. We are proud that they are apart of the Jack London community!

Pro-tip: stay tuned for their second annual Chimaek Fest (chicken and beer fest!) happening right here in Jack London, May of 2024.

Hella Coastal
420 3rd Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

As Oakland’s only black-owned brewery, Hella Coastal is breaking down barriers and creating change
in the beer world. While they currently share a space with their friends at Dokkæbier, they are working
towards having their own facility here in Oakland while further highlighting underrepresented minorities
in the industry. Hella Coastal was recently named one of the best breweries of 2023 by @vinepair and
we’re excited to see where their next chapter takes them!

Pro-tip: stop by their shared taproom to try their signature coconut stout, Bomba Nights, inspired by the
Puerto Rican holiday drink, Coquito!

Line 51
303 Castro Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

Founded in 2012, Line 51 opened their Castro Street taproom, “The Terminal” in 2020. Featuring a restored AC Transit bus from 1972, this spacious brewery and taproom is 100% family owned. Choose a brew from their diverse draft list or peruse their guest taps for wine and cider. Line 51 is also the official craft beer partner of the Oakland Roots!

Pro tip: this is a sports-lover’s paradise; with plenty of TVs and an early open time on NFL Sundays, this is a great place to enjoy the game!

Oakland United Beerworks
262 2nd Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

After getting their start as Linden Street Brewery in 2009, this community-based microbrewery moved operations to the Jack London warehouse district in 2017. With expanded brewing capacity and a gorgeous new taproom, they rebranded as Oakland United Beerworks and have been creating memorable brews with premium ingredients ever since. With solid roots here in Oakland, they highlight our community with especially beautiful can art and award-winning lagers.

Pro tip: OU is one of the many dog-friendly taprooms in the area! It’s the perfect place to sip on a Lucky Dog IPA with your pup by your side.

Original Pattern Brewing Co.
292 4th Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

Established in 2018, OP features a rotating tap list of hoppy, hazy, sour, dark, and light beers. Their hoppy brews are world-class and have earned them medals at the Great American Beer Festival. OP is employee-owned and known for their staff beer series, where each member of the staff gets the chance to brew their own beer with their head brewer. With a cozy taproom, a pizza pop-up, and plenty of outdoor seating, OP is a great place to hang anytime of year.

Pro tip: ask for a tasting flight and transport yourself across the world by tasting IPAs with rare and unique New Zealand hops

567 5th Street
Oakland, CA, 94607

Located in the back of a 150 year old Victorian building, Shapeshifters puts the “micro” in “microbrewery” by brewing small-batch brews on their 1BBL system with seasonally-available, locally-sourced ingredients. Their signature Ice Cold Popcorn Ale is the perfect companion to enjoying a show at the Shapeshifters Cinema.

Pro-tip: visit their weekly happy hour on Thursdays from 5-9PM for an exclusive chance to try their brews!
